What Are Keywords
Defining KWs for local SEO is fairly simple. KWs are words or phrases that consumers use to search for services and goods in search engines like Google and Bing. Keywords are a great way to drive targeted traffic to your site. KWs can help determine what stage of the buying process a consumer is currently at. For more expensive services and products people typically like to research whatever it is they are going to potentially buy. These niches have KWs that users would use to research the product and different KWs for when they are ready to make a purchase. Knowing the difference between the two will allow your business to create landing pages that are designed to educate traffic while others have a focus to get the consumer to set an appointment or to make a purchase on a product page. Catering to these different types of traffic will greatly increase the conversion rate of organic traffic.
How to Find KWs
I use a couple different tools to dig deep down into various KW metrics…. (I actually enjoy doing this). However, for the sake of keeping this post basic like title implies I will only be using free tools to explain how to find KWs. The first and easiest way to find KWs relevant to your business is to think about how you would personally search for the services, or products that you offer. Take this method of discovery a step further by asking family and friends how they would search for certain terms. Make a list of these terms. Let’s use chiropractors as an example. The list below was the result of thinking of different ways to find a chiropractor in my city.

Getting More Ideas
Come over to a great and free tool that I used to use to do basic research and discovery. This tool is called Keyword.io it offers additional information about the KWs if the user has a paid subscription.
Look how the list of KWs has grown. Although you don’t have access to see certain metrics like how many times that certain word is searched a month at least you have a general Idea of the way consumers are searching for your services.
Determining The Value
The next free tool should shine some light on the search volume metric of the relevant KWs as well as help you discover some more valuable ones. Set up an account for Google’s Keyword Planner Tool.
Choose Find Keywords
Enter up to 3 of your newly found keywords. Click get started.
In order to get accurate information for your local area, it’s is important that you enter the city in which you are trying to generate traffic in or from and exclude the rest.
Now you have a physically targeted interest driven list of keywords. Google’s Keyword Planner even gives metric information on certain keywords.
Higher search volume is an indicator that that would be a good KW to rank for. This is because that is how the majority of consumers in a given location search for a certain product or service. Now that you have a list of valuable keywords you can start creating content while being mindful to include them. Be sure not to stuff KWs into content as content isn’t just graded on keyword us but how valuable it is to the consumer as well. Thanks for reading.
